EIVA Commissioner Marquez Announces Retirement; Yurk Unanimously Voted as New EIVA Executive Director

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Ivan Marquez, Commissioner of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA), has announced his retirement after 15 years of leading the men’s volleyball conference and 23 years within the EIVA’s administration. Current Assistant Commissioner Russ Yurk has been unanimously voted in by the league’s coaches as the Executive Director during the annual conference meeting.


Marquez was named the first Executive Director of the EIVA in 2003 and has been involved in the league’s administration since 1996. He has been instrumental in its development and advancements as his contributions have shaped the modern-day EIVA. Marquez was previously the head men’s volleyball coach at Concordia (N.Y.) College where he would turn the small NCAA Division II program into a conference contender in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s and held the position of Director of Athletics at Concordia from the fall of 1996 until the summer of 2016. He was inducted into the EIVA Hall of Fame in 2012 as a part of its inaugural class and was named an NCAA Division II Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year recipient in 2017.


Yurk joined the EIVA in the fall of 2017 and brought nearly 25 years of progressively responsible experience in event management and project development on the international, intercollegiate, national, and state levels within the sports industry. He previously worked with the NCAA as an Assistant Director of Brand Strategies and Events for just over two years as well as Assistant Director of Championships for almost six years. One of his duties was to serve as the Championship Manager for the NCAA Men’s National Collegiate Volleyball tournament.
