2018 EIVA Hall of Fame Inductee: Dave DeNure

2018 EIVA Hall of Fame Inductee: Dave DeNure

BRONXVILE, N.Y. – Dave DeNure is the first of three inductees to be showcased on EIVAVolleyball.com as we look back at the careers of all three of the 2018 Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Hall of Fame members.

DeNure played for East Stroudsburg University between 1975 and 1978 as he was a dominating player for the Warriors. He was a three-time All-EIVA selection and led East Stroudsburg to 39 wins as a senior. DeNure was inducted into the East Stroudsburg Department of Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994.

Upon graduation, Dave played in the USA Men’s National Volleyball Team program playing in the National Sports Festival, the World University Games and with the US National Team. DeNure played for many years on one of the top USVBA teams in the country, Sun East. In 1988 he was the MVP of the Caribbean Invitational where his team took first place. Dave also played beach volleyball for 15 years, playing on several professional tours.

Following his playing career, DeNure took to the sidelines as he would coach both the men and women’s programs at East Stroudsburg before moving on to NJIT in 1982. His overall record with the men was 175-126, with four 20-win seasons and five others of at least 17 wins. NJIT competed at the NCAA Division III level of the EIVA during his coaching career as his Highlanders finished as national Division III runner-up in 1997 and they were EIVA Division III champions twice and runners-up twice.

In his final season as head coach (1998), NJIT tied for first place in its EIVA division and was the circuit’s top Division II team. The highlight of that final season in 1998 was a victory over Penn State, which lost just three EIVA matches in the entire decade. DeNure was also inducted into the NJIT Department of Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.

DeNure left NJIT in December 1998 to return to his high school alma mater, Morris Knolls in New Jersey, as a teacher and coach. He would then move on to coach at Flint Hill School in Oakton, Va. alongside his wife, Carrol, where they both currently coach. Dave and Carrol also coach at the Virginia Juniors Volleyball Club with the 15-Elite team.

All three of the 2018 EIVA Hall of Fame inductees will be honored during the 2018 EIVA Championship match on Saturday, April 21st in Fairfax, Va.
