HONOLULU - Junior Oboh has always brought an impact to the Princeton volleyball team, from an appearance in the EIVA final his freshman season to All-East honors as a sophomore. Now an upperclassman, Oboh is also bringing veteran leadership to a Tiger squad that both started four freshmen and desperately needed a victory in its final match of the Outrigger Invitational.
As usual, Oboh delivered. He had 11 kills without an error (.611), added three blocks and led the Tigers with 14.5 points in a 3-0 win over Erskine College. Princeton finished its season-opening week 1-2 in Hawaii, though it was a point away from a major upset in the opener against 15th-ranked Ball State.
Freshman Parker Dixon capped his impressive opening week with a match-high 12 kills, and he added two digs and two blocks, while classmate Shane Gooding paced the offense with 33 assists. A third freshman, George Huhmann, had six kills, as did junior tri-captain Mike Fuerst, while sophomore tri-captain Corry Short added seven digs.
Princeton will make its home debut this Thursday night against North Greenville; the match, which begins at 7 pm, will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
