BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The George Mason Patriots have been picked as the 2017 favorite in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced on Monday afternoon by the conference office.
George Mason is the reigning EIVA Champions from the 2016 season and received seven of the eight first-place votes. The Patriots captured 63 points as voted by the league's eight head coaches as Penn State received the other first-place vote and 54 points overall to place second. Rounding out the top-three is Saint Francis (Pa.), which fell to the Patriots in the EIVA Championship match last season, taking home 49 points in this year's poll.
Princeton and NJIT were separated by one point as the Tigers earned 33 points to place fourth and the Highlanders secured 32 points to claim the fifth spot in the preseason poll. Harvard is sixth with 29 points, Sacred Heart has 19 points in seventh, while Charleston (W. Va.) rounds out the poll with nine points in eighth place.
The 2017 EIVA Championship Tournament will begin with semifinal action on Thursday, April 20th and the championship match will be on Saturday, April 22nd. The location of the entire tournament will be the home facility of the regular season champion.
