  • George Mason Community Mourns Loss of Patrick Sibley

    FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason community is mourning the loss of rising senior Patrick Sibley, a member of the men’s volleyball team, after he died tragically on the morning of Sunday, August 18th in a Metro train-related accident. George Mason Athletics is extending its deepest condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Patrick.

    UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 14th-ranked Penn State men’s volleyball team (23-7) earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA National Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Championship. The Nittany Lions defeated Harvard, 3-0, for their 15th straight conference title on Saturday, April 27 to earn the automatic berth. Penn State will face No. 1 seed BYU (25-4) who own the MPSF title with a 3-0 sweep of Long Beach State.

  • 2013 EIVA Hall of Fame Inductee: Wayne Stalick

    Although Wayne Stalick is still the winningest head coach in the history of the Patriot men’s volleyball program and is credited its founding, he arrived at George Mason in 1972 in an academic role as a chemistry professor. In 1973 he was asked to be the faculty advisor to the club volleyball program, and just one year later he was charged with putting together a competitive men’s volleyball program.

The Nittany Lions host No. 4 seed Princeton on Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the second semifinal match. No. 2 seed George Mason and No. 3 seed Harvard meet in the earlier semifinal at 5:30 p.m.

    Princeton has been one of the cornerstones of volleyball in the East for more than 30 years, and Glenn Nelson is one name synonymous with the Tiger program. A successful coach for both the men’s and women’s programs, Nelson collected more than 1,100 wins across both platforms. But perhaps more notable that what he did was how he did it. Nelson, known for his unique coaching style and his personality off the court, built a significant alumni base fueled by his character and that of Princeton volleyball.
