Road wins in the EIVA don't come easily, and they are even tougher when you are without one of your top hitters. But the Princeton men's volleyball team found a way to overcome both obstacles and opened its league season with a 3-0 win at Sacred Heart.

With sophomore outside hitter Jeff Stapleton injured, freshman Cody Kessel and junior Michael Dye took over the main hitting duties in a 3-0 victory at Sacred Heart. Kessel, in his EIVA debut, recorded 13 kills with only one error for a .462 hitting percentage in a 25-20, 25-20, 25-21 victory. Dye was his typical efficient self, killing 10 balls in 13 swings for a .615 percentage.

Sophomore Davis Waddell added eight kills and four digs, while freshman middle Will Siroky added six kills and seven blocks for the Tigers, who will head to Cambridge for a Saturday afternoon showdown at Harvard.

With Stapleton out, head coach Sam Shweisky was forced into a lineup shift. Kessel moved to outside and Dye went from middle to opposite. That left a spot for reserve Ryan Poladian, who made the most of his start in the middle. He helped the defense with six blocks, while freshman Tony Ensbury had a team-best 10 digs.

The offense was led by senior setter Scott Liljestrom, who recorded 31 digs and kept the offense clicking despite the lineup changes. Liljestrom will now try to lead Princeton to a road sweep against a Harvard squad that took two 3-2 marathons against the Tigers last season.
