Scarlet Raiders Roll Past Pioneers In Their EIVA Hay Finale
NEWARK, NJ – Junior setter Jeff Zornig had
match highs of five aces, 11 digs and eight assisted blocks while
fueling the Rutgers-Newark attack with 33 assists in a 3-0 EIVA Hay
win over Sacred Heart in The Golden Dome. Set scores were 30-25,
30-25, 30-21.
The Scarlet Raiders (13-11, EIVA Hay 8-0) completed their
divisional season with a perfect mark and now are waiting for their
opponent to be determined for the opening round of the EIVA
Championship tournament which begins on April 24.
Sophomore right side Austin Pappas led a balanced
Raider attack by hitting .667 with 11 kills and just one error on
15 swings while playing in only the first two sets to help
Rutgers-Newark hit .300 or better as a team for the 11th time this
season. Pappas also added six digs and three assisted blocks.
Senior middle hitter Jon Keller notched 11.5 points with
a solo block, seven assisted blocks, a pair of aces and five kills
as five Raiders reached double figures in points.
Sophomore outside hitter Marcin Midura hammered down 10
kills while sophomore outside hitter Eduardo Hernandez
tallied eight kills, two aces and two assisted blocks.
Freshman middle hitter Mark Kochan was in on five blocks
as Rutgers-Newark dominated the net, out blocking the Pioneers
(16-10, EIVA Hay 4-3), 15.0 to 8.5.
Junior right side Roger Parent pace Sacred Heart with team highs of
11 kills, four aces and seven digs, but he was the only Pioneer in
double digit points.
The Raiders, winners of 12 of their last 14 matches, are guaranteed
at least a .500 season.
