The Week
Rutgers-Newark Volleyball
LEXINGTON, KY – Sophomore Marcin
Midura has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II
Men’s National Player of the Week after leading
Rutgers-Newark to a 2-0 week which included an upset of No. 6
nationally-ranked Penn State.
Tabbed the EIVA Hay Player of the Week for the second time in this season earlier today, the 6-foot-4 right-hander has helped the Scarlet Raiders (9-10, EIVA Hay 6-0) win eight of their last nine matches while seizing firm control of the league regular-season race.
Midura hit .475 for the week, averaging 4.86 kills and 5.36 points per set.
He hit .478 with a dozen kills and just one error on 23 swings in a 3-0 road win over Sacred Heart on Wednesday as the Raiders took a giant step toward locking up the top seed from the EIVA Hay in the upcoming EIVA Championship Tournament.
On Saturday, he hit .474 with match-highs of 22 kills and 10 digs as Rutgers-Newark shocked the Nittany Lions, 3-1, in The Golden Dome. It was the first win over Penn State for the Raiders since March 27, 2004.
He becomes the first Scarlet Raider to receive the honor since outside hitter Andrew Pink garnered the award exactly six years ago -- March 29, 2004.
