Rutgers-Newark Sweeps NYU To Take Fifth Straight
NEWARK, NJ – Sophomore Marcin Midura paced a balanced
Rutgers-Newark attack as the Scarlet Raiders downed NYU, 3-0, for
their fifth straight victory. Set scores were 30-18,
30-22, 30-21.
Junior setter Jeff Zornig distributed 35 assists as the Raiders
(6-9, EIVA Hay 5-0) hit .416 (41 kills, 9 errors, 77 attacks) to
complete their home-and-home sweep of the Violets (2-10, EIVA Hay
0-4). Zornig also added four aces, a pair of assisted blocks
and a kill to his night’s work.
It marked the third time in during the winning streak that
Rutgers-Newark has hit better than .400 in a match. The
Raiders are hitting .389 as a unit during the 5-match string with
Zornig averaging 13.0 assists per set.
Senior middle hitter Jon Keller hammered down eight kills on just
10 swings with no errors and added two assisted blocks in just two
sets before getting the third frame off. Midura added an ace,
a match-high six digs, a solo block and two assisted blocks to post
a match-high 15.0 points.
Junior right side Dane Mulligan notched eight kills, an ace and
three assisted blocks while freshman middle hitter Mark Kochan
registered five kills on .364 hitting while adding three assisted
blocks to help Rutgers-Newark forge a 10.5 to 3.0 advantage in
blocks.
Francis Hodgson and Michael Ferragonio paced NYU with seven kills
apiece.
