Preps for Fall Contests
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., Nov. 12, 2009 - The Penn State men's
volleyball team heads to New York this weekend to test out its new
roster prior to its 2010 season opener. The Nittany Lions have
three matches scheduled in Buffalo and Rochester.
Penn State, who returns five starters from last year's squad,
travels to Buffalo, N.Y. on Saturday, Nov. 14 for matches with
Nazareth College and IPFW. The Nittany Lions meet Nazareth at 1
p.m. with a match against IPFW set for 7 p.m. Both matches will be
played at the Buffalo Niagara Center Courts. On Sunday, Nov. 15,
Penn State takes on Loyola-Chicago at 12 p.m. at Nazareth College
to close out the weekend.
Top returners for Penn State include, junior libero and 2009 AVCA
Second Team All-American Dennis Del Valle, senior
middle blocker and 2009 AVCA First Team All-American Max
Lipsitz, senior outside hitter and 2009 AVCA First Team
All-American Will Price, redshirt sophomore and
2009 Second Team All-EIVA Joe Sunder and redshirt
sophomore and 2009 AVCA Second Team All-American Edgardo
Goas.
The Nittany Lions, under the guidance of head coach Mark
Pavlik in his 16th season at the helm of the program, open
the 2010 season at the Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, Hawai'i
Jan. 7 versus USC. Penn State's home opener is scheduled for
Friday, Jan. 15 against Saint Francis (Pa.).
