Alumnus Kevin Moore Returning to Juniata as the Eagles' New Head Coach
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Kevin Moore, a 2002 Juniata College graduate with
volleyball coaching experience at the club, high school, collegiate
and national levels, is returning to College Hill to become
Juniata's new head coach.
"This is an exciting but challenging time for Juniata men's
volleyball and Kevin's background and strengths clearly make him
the person we need to navigate this great program through the
coming years," said Larry Bock, Juniata athletic director.
"His experiences with USA Volleyball, the EIVA, and at George Mason
were major considerations for those of us conducting this search,
but what is most exciting is that Kevin is coming home to his alma
mater. So many of us are delighted that this one is staying
in the family and look forward to the Moore chapters in Juniata
College Athletics history."
Moore returns to Juniata after spending the past two seasons at
George Mason University, where he has been an assistant coach and
the lead recruiting coordinator for the Patriots' men's volleyball
program for the past two seasons. He helped guide the Patriots to
an 8-19 record last season, reaching the EIVA Tournament
semifinals. GMU went 14-16 in Moore's first season on staff, also
reaching the EIVA Tournament semifinals where the Patriots fell to
defending national champion Penn State.
He previously served as head boys' volleyball coach at Gates-Chili
High School in Rochester, N.Y., from 2004 to 2008, leading his
squad to a sectional championship in both 2005 and 2006. He was
named the Section V Monroe County Class A Coach of the Year in
2006. Moore concurrently served on the coaching staff of the Pace
Bootlegger Boys Volleyball Club in Rochester, and was head coach of
the club's 18-and-under squad from 2006 to 2008.
Moore has been active with the USA Volleyball High Performance
program for the past six years, directing tryout camps and serving
as an evaluator at camps in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
He has served as a clinician at the USA Boys Development Camps and
the Boys Youth A2 Camp and Competition since 2008. In 2006 and
2007, Moore was a training coach and evaluator at the USA Boys
Youth National Team camp, helping select a team to qualify and
represent the United States at the 2007 FIVB Boys' Youth World
Championships.
A graduate of Juniata with a degree in elementary and special
education, Moore received his master's degree in education from the
State University of New York College at Brockport in 2008. He is
certified as an elementary education and special education teacher
in both Virgina and New York.
A four-year letterwinner in men's volleyball at Juniata, Moore
helped lead the Eagles to their first Molten Division III
Invitational title in 1998. He earned EIVA Division III All-Star
honors in 1998 and 2000.
Moore will be the sixth head coach in Juniata men's volleyball
history. He takes over from former head coach Jeremy Price, who
resigned after four seasons to accept the head men's volleyball
coach position at Grand Canyon University. Moore will officially
begin his new duties at Juniata on September 1, 2010.
Juniata is coming off a 9-13 season in 2010, and posted a 3-7
record in the EIVA Tait Division. The Eagles will return four
starters off last year's squad.
