No. 11 George Mason Sweeps Rutgers-Newark,
3-0
Bates leads the Patriots in kills with 10
FAIRFAX, Va. (February 27,
2008) - The 11th-ranked George Mason men's volleyball team
swept the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders in three games (30-21,
30-28, 30-28) on Wednesday evening at the Fieldhouse. With the win,
the Patriots improve to 9-5 overall during the 2008 season.
Mason ran away with the first game, 30-21, but had a tough time
with Rutgers-Newark in the ensuing two games. The Patriots won the
second and third games by identical 30-28 margins.
Junior outside hitter Hudson Bates had a team-high 10 kills on 16
swings (.438) to pace the Patriots, who hit .354 as a team. Junior
opposite hitter Kyle Gramit chipped in nine kills with two aces in
the match.
The Scarlet Raiders were led by sophomore outside hitter Nate
Stott, who posted a match-high 13 kills. Sophomore Jon Keller hit
.636 with eight kills.
