Anderson Earns Second Team AVCA All-America Honors

Penn State sophomore men's volleyball student-athlete Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.) has been named a Second Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).  The AVCA All-America awards will be presented at the NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship Banquet on the campus of Ohio State on Wednesday, May. 2.

The national award is the first of Anderson's career and marks the 63rd overall award in Penn State men's volleyball history.

An opposite, Anderson leads the sixth-ranked Nittany Lions (22-7) with 4.37 kills per game while also providing 1.01 digs per game and 0.69 blocks per game, along with 32 service aces for the season. He has led the squad in kills on 14 occasions, including pounding a career-high and rally-scoring-era school record 35 at UC Santa Barbara on March 12. He began the season on the left side before switching to the right side in Penn State's first-ever sweep of Hawaii on Jan. 27 and has posted double-digit kill figures in 23 matches, including six matches with 20 or more kills. Anderson also tied the school rally-scoring-era record for service aces in a match with a career-best six at Saint Francis on March 31.
