No. 6 Penn State Men's Volleyball Sweeps
East Stroudsburg, 3-0
Anderson leads Lions with 17 kills
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa., February 26, 2007 - Sophomore Matt Anderson
(West Seneca, N.Y.) pounded 17 kills as the sixth-ranked Penn State
men's volleyball team swept East Stroudsburg (30-18, 30-21, 30-24)
Monday night to improve to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the Eastern
Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA).
In addition to Anderson's 17 kills, sophomore Max Holt (Cincinnati,
Ohio) and freshman Max Lipsitz (Williamsville, N.Y.) each
contributed 10 kills, with Lipsitz' coming on .530 hitting.
Senior Alex Gutor (Kiev, Ukraine) chipped in seven kills as senior
Aaron Smith (Forest, Va.) posted five.
As a team, Penn State attacked at a .340 clip.
Junior setter Luke Murray (East Petersburg, Pa.) directed the
Nittany Lion offense and also led the defense with seven digs as
senior libero Ryan Walthall (Irvine, Calif.) notched six digs and
Smith contributed five.
Penn State recorded seven team blocks, led by Anderson and Holt
with two each. Anderson also topped the team with three of its
seven service aces as Smith provided two.
Penn State returns home on March 8-9 to host Rutgers-Newark and
Mercyhurst before heading to California over spring break to face
No. 3 UC Santa Barbara (Mar. 12), No. 2 UC Irvine (Mar. 14),
NAIA-power Cal Baptist (Mar. 16) and No. 13 Long Beach State (Mar.
17).
