East Stroudsburg University

Season Outlook

The 2007 East Stroudsburg University Men's Volleyball Team will look to keep improving in the EIVA this season. Last year, the Warriors finished 16-8 under first year head coach Dustin Wood. The Warriors won the 2006 EIVA Hay Division last year and lost in the 1st round of the EIVA Championships to Juniata College. The Warriors moved up to the EIVA Tait Division this year joining Penn State University, George Mason University, Rutgers University, Princeton, St. Francis University, and Juniata College, all of which the Warriors will play home and away contests with.

The ESU Men's Volleyball Team lost only one player to graduation. The Warriors have all their starters back from last year, which looks very promising. Returning for the warriors is 2nd All-East player Jon Daley (Jr. Sinking Springs, PA). Daley provides size and athleticism to the middle position.  He should be the go to guy this year. Also returning this year are three senior starters. Adam Holdredge (Sr. Tunkhanock, PA) will run the offense again this year. He will be a four-year starter in his tenure at ESU. He knows the players and system to run a fast paced offense for the Warriors. He is an All-East candidate in the preseason. Keith Eckenrode (Sr. Tunkhanock, PA) will man the other middle position. He brings four years of starting experience to the court. He is a quick middle who will give opposing teams trouble with his speed. The last senior, Tom German (Sr. New Oxford, PA), will man one of the outside positions this year. German has improved each and every year and is a team leader.

There is a heated position battle for the opposite position this year. Jeff Quinn (Jr. Hamburg, NY) will bring a big block for the Warriors. Last year he shut down many excellent outsides for the opposing team.  A surprise this year is sophomore Brent Bevenour (So. New Oxford, PA). Brent comes in this year bigger and stronger. He will see increased playing time this year. He brings offensive power to the opposite position. RJ Roth (So. Carsile, PA) will be in his 2nd year as starting libero. Roth was one of the nations DI-II leaders in digs per game last season. He has a year of experience and is expected to grow into one of the best EIVA's liberos this season.

The other starting outside spot has come down to freshman Eli Porr (Fr. Denver, PA) and sophomore Jesse Landis (So. York, PA). Landis started last year, but had a season ending ankle injury. He is fully recovered and is looking to challenge for the starting spot this year. Porr, a highly recruited freshman from Lancaster, PA brings a strong background and fundamentals to the outside position. His ball control and defense brings energy to the court. He is an all around player, and will see a lot of time on the court this year.

Rounding out the Warriors are junior outside hitter Mike Oswald (Jr. Oswego, NY), sophomore middle Kyle Duffy (So. Altoona, PA), setter John Post (So. Middletown, CT), and opposite Justin Allcock (Fr. Ontario, Canada). Oswald is a team player and will see time as a serving specialist and defensive specialist. Duffy, a 6'7" middle, will continue to grow and see time as a blocking specialist. Post, a back-up setter, will see some time this year as a blocking specialist too. Allcock has the potential to be an All-East selection in the years to come with his leaping ability. Hopefully he will continue to grow physically and fundamentally.

The 2007 East Stroudsburg University Men's Volleyball Team has the potential to be one top teams in the Eastern Intercolligiate Volleyball Assocaition (EIVA), a conference filled with nationally ranked Division I teams, which the Warriors will all play in the 2007 season.
